I Sail
This treble choir piece features a flowing piano accompaniment, expressive solo cello writing, lyrical vocal lines, and an uplifting, unifying original text by the composer: “Together we sail on!” This is a beautiful addition to any concert program.

About the Work
This piece was written in 2022 for the first iteration of the New Works Rising composition competition created by Herbert Washington and the Phoenix Boys Choir (Phoenix, AZ). The material of the submitted works were to be based on the theme of “new horizons.” With this in mind, I set out to create a piece that both lyrically and musically capture ideas of discovery, hope, wonder, and community. Though it was not a top three finalist, conductor Herbert Washington, was drawn to the piece and reached out in hopes to premiere it with the PBC as part of their 2022-2023 season and international tour of performances. Now, it is included in the first release of the Herbert Washington Choral Series, published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing, making it available for choirs everywhere to enjoy!
